Election of Trustees

Published: 10 April 2018

Since its establishment in 1983, the Shetland Amenity Trust has vigorously pursued a range of activities in order to achieve its charitable objects, which focus on the conservation and improvement of Shetland’s built, natural and cultural heritage and the improvement of public access to, and understanding of, that heritage. Much of this work has been undertaken in partnership with local, national and international agencies. The trust has attracted many millions of pounds in external funding, generating jobs and incomes in Shetland. Among its functions, the trust operates the Shetland Museum and Archives by agreement with Shetland Islands Council. We wish to fill a number of vacancies on the board of trustees. All applications are welcome but we are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with backgrounds or interests in:

  • Business and entrepreneurship
  • Communications and media
  • Community engagement Finance
  • Fundraising
  • Maritime heritage
  • Marketing Organisational change
  • Project management

We also encourage applications from sections of the population that are currently under-represented on the trust, including people under 50. Applications and expressions of interest that have already been submitted, either directly or via our recruitment agency, will be considered. If you have enthusiasm for Shetland’s environment and heritage, serving as a trustee can help the trust to achieve its aims and is likely to prove challenging, interesting and rewarding. Trustees are not paid, but reasonable expenses incurred in undertaking trust duties may be claimed. Appointment as a trustee is normally for a term of four years, which may be extended. Before applying, we strongly recommend that you read the guidance on the role of charity trustees available on the website of the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (www.oscr.org.uk).For our application pack, please email Ali Robertson (alice.robertson@shetlandamenity. org) or telephone her on 01595 694688.
