2016 Environmental Awards Launched
Published: 16 August 2016
Launched on Friday 19th August, the Shetland Amenity Trust is looking for nominations for the Shetland Environmental Awards. Any environmental project is eligible and the Trust would encourage those who have undertaken these projects, or anyone who knows of a worthy project, to apply.
This is the 28th year of the awards, which aim to acknowledge projects that demonstrate sustainability, innovation and best practice in the conservation and enhancement of Shetland’s Environment.
Brian Gregson, chair of the Shetland Environment Group which judges the awards, said: “The Shetland Environmental Awards continue to promote and celebrate environmental projects across Shetland’s community; from large organisations and private business to community groups, schools and youth projects. The event also champions individual people who go above and beyond to preserve, protect and enhance the local environment”
Whilst there are no specific categories, nominations may come from projects associated with recycling & waste management, the built environment, habitat creation & land stewardship, prevention of litter & pollution, heritage & culture and environmental improvement & awareness. Projects must be complete and fully operational at time of application and can also be from projects which have been operational for several years.
Mr Gregson, added: “The judging panel are always heartened when we receive details of the nominations. As they give a real sense of the Shetland populations’ dedication to the environment.
And we are especially delighted to see people from all walks of life putting time and effort into protecting and preserving our environment.
We would encourage everyone who has undertaken relevant projects to apply. Many of the projects entered are nominated by members of the public. If you know of a project which deserves the recognition of an Environmental Award please request an application pack and send a nomination.”
Applications can now be completed online HERE. Electronic application packs can also be requested through: firstname.lastname@example.org and paper copies from the Shetland Amenity Trust offices, Garthspool, Lerwick; call 01595 694688.
The application is very simple to complete and further supporting information and photographs are also welcome. The closing date for award applications is in four weeks’ time at 12 noon, Friday 16th September with the awards presented at a ceremony in the Shetland Museum and Archives in November.
