Woolly Thinking Shetland 2023 (18 - 19 September)

The Centre for Island Creativity at UHI Shetland, in collaboration with Shetland Amenity Trust invites you to join us for the first ‘Woolly Thinking’ conference, 18th-19th September 2023.

Inspired by Shetland’s history of innovative interaction between hand, machine and digital technologies, the conference will explore new approaches to design and making in textiles and beyond, at a time of growing concern about the impacts of materials and industrial processes on the climate and communities.

The conference will be hosted at the fantastic Shetland Museum and Archive buildings in Lerwick, Shetland, UK.

Shetland Amenity Trust was established in 1983 with a core mission to safeguard, enhance, and promote Shetland's heritage, ensuring it is accessible to be enjoyed by all. Amongst many areas of activity, the Amenity Trust operates the Shetland Museum and Archives at the historic Hay's Dock site on the water's edge in Shetland's capital town Lerwick.

UHI Shetland is the most northerly partner of the University of the Highlands and Islands, we provide a single point of contact for tertiary education, training and research in Shetland. The Centre for Island Creativity supports academic research, taught post-graduate learning, post graduate research, commercialisation and knowledge exchange activities across the whole UHI network.
