THING Project Presentation
Shetland Amenity Trust is presenting the activities and findings of the 3-year NPP funded THING Project at an event in Shetland Museum and Archives on Saturday 22 June.
The afternoon will include presentations about the project, the relevance of the thing system today, and how Nesting Primary School was inspired to create their own thing site in the school grounds.
Speakers at the event will include Eileen Brooke-Freemanwho has co-ordinated the project on behalf of Shetland Amenity Trust; Jimmy Moncrieff, General Manager of the Trust and Chairman of the Destination Viking Association; Tavish Scott, local MSP, and Kate Coutts, Headteacher at Nesting Primary School.
There will also be a film screening of Jacqueline Clark's play "Aert-fast", which was based on an original meeting of the lawting at Tingwall and staged outdoors on site last summer. The event will also incorporate the launch ofthe new book "Things in the Viking World" and those attending will receive a complimentary copy.
This is a free event, and members of the public are invited along to hear more about how links have been created with Viking sites across the Northern World and how local thing sites have been interpreted in a new way.
The event will take place in the Auditorium from 2.00pm to 5.00pm with the film screening at 3.45pm.
