Shetland Amenity Trust launches Heritage Season Ticket

Published: 25 June 2019

Shetland Amenity Trust has announced the release of a new ‘Heritage Season Ticket’.  The ticket can be used at Shetland Amenity Trust sites in the South Mainland including Sumburgh Head Lighthouse & Visitor Centre, Old Scatness Broch and Iron Age Village, and the Crofthouse Museum at Dunrossness.  The ticket provides up to a third off the usual ticket price and means that you can visit the sites as many times as you wish throughout the season.

Ruth Mackenzie, Chair of the Shetland Amenity Trust said, “we are keen to enable everyone in Shetland to visit these fantastic sites again and again and hope that the Heritage Season Ticket will help them to do just that.  We have priced the ticket to be really affordable to both individuals and families and hope that they are popular.”

The Shetland Amenity Trust operates all three sites covered by the season ticket.  Ruth continued, “as a charity we rely on ticket sales and donations to keep the sites open.  It is hoped that people will come and visit and then come back again with friends and family.  We are working hard to update our sites and keep them fresh with plenty to do for all the family.  The marine life centre at Sumburgh head is always popular and at the Scatness Visitor Centre you can dress up in Iron Age Costume and explore the site and reconstructions.”

During the Shetland Nature Festival there are open days at all three sites with additional drop-in activities and the new heritage season ticket will provide access to all of these events.  Ruth added, “this ticket is an experiment for us this year to see if it is popular.  If so we would be keen to work with other heritage sites next season to see if we can collaborate and promote each other more effectively.”

The tickets are now available to purchase at all three sites as well as at the Shetland Museum and Archives.  A family ticket is £25, an adult is £12, and a child ticket is £5.  More information is available online at www.shetlandamenity.org/discover.
