Last Call for Environmental Awards

Published: 01 September 2014

Shetland Amenity Trust is reminding local environmental projects that they have just over a week left to enter this year’s Shetland Environmental Awards.

The Awards acknowledge projects that demonstrate sustainability, innovation and best practice in the conservation and enhancement of Shetland’s Environment. The Trust would welcome applications from anyone who has completed an environmental project in 2014, including private business, community groups, schools, youth projects, individuals, charities and larger organisations.

Whilst there are no specific categories, nominations may come from projects associated with recycling & waste management, the built environment, habitat creation & land stewardship, prevention of litter & pollution, heritage & culture and environmental improvement & awareness.

The awards are again sponsored, and judged, by the major players within the environment sector in Shetland, including Scottish Environment Protection Agency, Scottish Natural Heritage, Shetland Islands Council, Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, Shetland Civic Society, VisitShetland and, of course, Shetland Amenity Trust. The awards event will also be sponsored, by the Total Laggan-Tormore Project. The event will be held in the Shetland Museum and Archives in November.

Applications can be completed online through the Shetland Amenity Trust on the Environmental Awards pages. Electronic application packs can also be requested through: info@shetlandamenity.org and paper copies from the Shetland Amenity Trust offices, Garthspool, Lerwick; call 01595 694688.

The application is very simple to complete and further supporting information and photographs are also welcome. The closing date for award applications is 12 noon, Friday 12th September.
